Five ways to induce confidence in young girls

“What the younger generation didn't understand was that the grass was greenest where it's watered..”

Most parents have thought about how to induce confidence in their children. As a parent you want the best life for your child and you always ponder on what to do and how to go about doing it. Bringing up a confident child is a learning process. Most people, even those seeming experts have a few clueless moments. It comes as a thought to everyone’s mind every now and then. It is even more difficult when we are handling a girl child. As a guardian or a parent to a girl child you will do your part on one hand and society will counteract the same. This is hardly an under statement as even now, 2015 you will still hear several incidents of gender bias and so on. It might come as a surprise to some people but still on this day and age the girl child is yet to be given the full rights as the boy child and are sometimes looked at in a different mentality in terms of equality of opportunity, place in society just to mention but a few as opposed to their male counterparts. Here are five ways you can boost a young girl’s confidence,

  1. Start early,
The earlier you start nurturing confidence in your daughter or a young girl in your responsibility, the better. Speaking encouraging words to them from when they are young to encourage them to be themselves can do a lot of good than you can ever expect. The earlier you start focusing on this the better as it it scientifically proven that from as early as 14 months kids can hear you and digest what you say,

  1. Show them love,
This seems like an obvious point but it is one of the things that brings out confidence in your child. Show no bias especially if they have siblings, male or otherwise. If you yell, ignore or make some other parenting mistake, give your child a hug and tell him or her you're sorry and you love her. Unconditional love will help build a strong foundation for confidence.

  1. Focus on their strengths,
You can simply focus on your child’s strengths by encouraging them to do what they are good at. Magnifying their strengths and minimizing their weaknesses can help mould their confidence and encourage them to do what they can do best even with more effort hence confidence.

  1. Reassurance and encouragement,
When they seem to be disappointed or have not done anything right. Strive to encourage them and reassure them in a positive way. They always know when they have not done things right and by handling it in a genuine way it will help them know their weaknesses and possibly improve on the same. Also this will be genuine and they will learn to embrace their mistakes and try again. This brings out confidence as opposed to holding on to the failures and giving up all together.

  1. Outdoor group activities and games

Interaction in group activities with other kids is also another way to boost your daughter’s confidence. Frequently doing activities such as camping will encourage your daughter to be more social and outgoing with her peers. This can start from a young age and can eventually result in her becoming a more social person as a result from social skills drawn from such activities.

The Power of Fasting!

“You should not fast just to get the anointing. That won’t be very effective. Fasting is rather a means of abasing yourselves for the service of God and man.”
                                                                                              -- Pastor Adelaja Sunday

From time to time we here at RRFW will update you on our progress. Last week, my team and I began fasting and praying. I kid you not, the moment we began things started happening... God started working. People may think it's a joke when I say this, but God is working! His response may not always be swift but he is working.

When God is at the forefront we cannot fail. I am basically testifying right here. So many door have been opened for me, for my team and for my business that it has to be God working. My assistant keeps reminding me that God is working... God is good! I am just amazed by his swiftness this time around and amazed by how is he placing the right people in my life at the right times.

I am so grateful and thankful to him. I am really passionate about what I aspire to do for my community, for my gender and just anyone else that I may indirectly inspire. I pray that God continues to use me just like he already has been. I know there is a lot more blessing coming my way.

Check back next week to for the continuation of our series 6 ways to empower women.

Build her up!

"Women build each other up, girls tear each other down--"
                                                                             Anonymous

Why is that females are so much harder on each other than males are? We are so quick to judge each other and point out every flaw we see. In this century men refer to women as thots (that hoe over there) and we pick up the slang not realizing that we are tearing each other up. Men stick together no matter what, they are always backing each other.

Women on the other hand always seem to be tearing each other down. Khloe Kardashian made a good point in her tweet the other day, let's build each other up not tear each other down. We are so quick to judge someone's situation and talk about what they should do. How about we encourage them!

In order to empower yourself and others is to be positive, encourage women, and advice them. We have to stick together as women, we don't need to be so hard on ourselves and each other. Build each other up, don't tear down.

Be a Role Model

"A role model can teach you to love and respect yourself."
                                                    --    Tionne Watkins

Last week we mentioned that we were starting a series on 6 ways to empower women. Here at Rebuilding Respect for women we believe that you can not only empower yourself but also others around you.

The first and most important way to empower women is to be a role model to them. Be confident and show them that it is easier than they think it is to be strong and feel powerful. Woman are always in need of more role models to them the way in life. Not the kind of role model they see on television but the kind they see regularly, the kind that can inspire a positive change in them.

Becoming a role model also empowers you as an individual because you now have others looking to you for guidance. I encourage you to guide them well. Show them that with hard work, success is inevitable. You could be the woman a young girl needs in her life to empower her.

Be on the look out for the second way to empower women.

Never Give Up!

"We must accept finite disappointment but never lose infinite hope."
                                                              -- Martin Luther King Jr.

This week my team and I would like to share what this journey has been like for us. From time to time we will engage you because we want you guys to know how things are progressing. We want you to be apart of this journey with us.

Last week we sent in an application to a highly recognized organization and we were filled with hope. We worked on that application for days. We stayed up late changing things around constantly and we were sure the response was going to be favorable... but it wasn't. It was a shock to the team.

We got over it and we're now moving forward and we will apply there again and also to other organizations because one setback is an opportunity for a great comeback. I shared this to say, whenever you set out to accomplish anything and you fail, do it again, change your approach and never give up.

Failure/ Disappointment is all a part of the game but you should never give up. When one door closes a million more open, don't be afraid to grab the handle because you don't want to be disappointed. There are infinite opportunities out there, the right one will find you.

Look out for our new series coming up: 6 Ways to Empower a Woman. See you next week.

Education and Empowerment

"No matter where you are in life inspire and empower the women around you. Success is never reached alone. Wisdom and wealth are sweeter shared." -- Mizzfit

Thank you for joining us this week. We have been M.I.A. for a while but a lot of great things have been happening and in the weeks to come you will hear about all our goals and accomplishments. This week I would like to talk about empowerment and education. Someone once wrote, "Education is one of the most important means of empowering women with the knowledge, skills and self-confidence necessary to participate fully in the development process."

For the women out there that were blessed enough to receive the gift of education we are charged to help uplift and educate another. It can just be by simply teaching someone how to read, how to spell their names, encouraging them to take the step towards learning. We have to empower one another. The goal is not to do it so we can brag about it... the goal is to genuinely help someone and inspire change.

Success is never reached alone. We have to come together, stop ostracizing individuals because of their educational background, accept that you're not better than them but that you can bring them along with you on this journey. If you can help someone as you pass by, help them. In order for a women to participate in the development of a society or community they have to be confident, self aware and armed with knowledge.  So let us inspire and empower the women and children in and around our communities.
